Who Is Sinterklaas?

                                                  

Sinterklaas is Saint Nicholas, and he is like a Dutch version of Santa Claus (though he shouldn't be confused with Santa Claus! Santa, or "Kerstman" also comes to the Netherlands). He is said to come to the Netherlands every year on a steamship with his servants, called "Zwarte Pieten". Much like Santa, Sinterklaas records all of the good and bad things that children do in a book. He brings presents for the good children, but he puts bad children in his sack and takes them away for a year so he can teach them how to behave.
